Get to Know Us
Rooted in New Orleans’ vibrant culture and community spirit, Know Dat Grow Dat is dedicated to growing fresh, local produce while cultivating health, sustainability, and connection. What started as a neighborhood effort to rebuild after Hurricane Katrina has flourished into a mission-driven urban farm, blending tradition, education, and innovation to nourish both people and place.
Rooted in Resilience
Know Dat Grow Dat was born from New Orleans’ spirit of resilience and renewal. After Hurricane Katrina, as the city rebuilt, the Hollygrove Market and Farm became a hub for local residents to reconnect with the land through urban gardening and sustainable growing practices. It was there that the foundation for Know Dat Grow Dat took root—a commitment to cultivating fresh, locally grown produce that nourishes both body and community.
What began as a small community effort has grown into a thriving urban farm producing seasonal fruits, vegetables, and our signature Mike’s Micro Greens. Founded by retired pharmacist Michael Beauchamp, Know Dat Grow Dat combines medical insight with a love of good food, showing how nutrition and sustainability can go hand in hand. We take pride in continuing New Orleans’ rich food traditions—because here, flavor and health always grow together.

Meet the Gardener
Michael C. Beauchamp Sr., founder of Know Dat Grow Dat, is a Xavier University College of Pharmacy graduate (Class of 1976) with over 40 years of experience as a practicing pharmacist. His passion for community health and sustainable agriculture began after Hurricane Katrina, when he joined the Hollygrove Market and Farm in New Orleans. There, he gained hands-on experience in urban gardening and sustainable growing techniques, exploring the powerful link between plant-based diets and the prevention of diet-related illnesses.
Driven by both medical knowledge and community spirit, Mr. Beauchamp founded Know Dat Grow Dat to promote urban farming, healthy eating, and disease prevention through nutrition. His work focuses on growing fresh, nutrient-rich produce while educating the public about the benefits of eating locally grown food. He firmly believes that “true wealth is perfect health,” and continues to cultivate both plants and wellness throughout the New Orleans community.

Cultivating Opportunity by Giving Back
At Know Dat Grow Dat, we believe understanding where our food comes from—and how it’s grown—is essential for building a healthier, more sustainable future. From nutrient-rich micro greens to the edible flowers each plant produces, we study every stage of growth to strengthen our connection to the soil and to the community it nourishes.
As part of this mission, we’ve partnered with Daughters Beyond Incarceration (DBI), a New Orleans-based nonprofit that empowers school-aged girls with incarcerated parents. Through DBI’s after-school program, we provide hands-on urban farming lessons focused on sustainability, nutrition, and food awareness. Together, we’re cultivating more than produce—we’re helping grow opportunity, knowledge, and resilience in our community.
